A rant about TWOT
In a new book, "Stages of Emergency," Tracy C. Davis notes that in the 50's and 60's the government focused on spending money on the interstate highway system rather than on civil defense, in spite of a serious Cold War, including the Cuban Missle Crisis, which today is replaced by The War On Terrorism (TWOT). A component of TWOT is the illusion of security at airports. At a cost of over $6 billion annually (!). I think there are better ways to spend that money. Education, social security bail-out, finding alternatives to fossil fuels, etc. etc.
And then there is the War On Drugs. $19 billion (federal) annually. And the War In Afganistan and the War In Iraq? (over $600 billion). But that's another rant . . .
